IAEM CEM/AEM Exam in Springfield, MO
Greene County, Missouri Office of Emergency Management has received approval to host and proctor the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Certified Emergency Manager/Associate Emergency Manager Exam on August 9th at the Greene County Archives Training Center. This is a great chance to take this exam locally, August 9, 2010 and obtain credentials for your experience in our field. The exam is not overwhelming and covers most of the material that you have been “living” while performing your respective emergency management roles. There are even a few “test prep” and study guide options available on their website. Once you have taken the exam, you have a full year to submit your completed application packet. I encourage everyone to strongly consider taking this next step in your professional careers and register to take the exam. I have assisted several of our staff members in going through the CEM application process and would be glad to answer any questions you might have.
As a side note, this is a great next step to those of us who have obtained our Missouri Certified Emergency Manager (MoCEM) status as it transfers directly over to one of the ‘professional contributions’ on the IAEM CEM application.
You must register by Monday, July 26th, 2010!
Here is an except from the IAEM website with more information:
“IAEM created the Certified Emergency Manager® and Associate Emergency Manager Programs to raise and maintain professional standards. It is an internationally recognized program that certifies achievements within the emergency management profession.
CEM® and AEM certification is a peer review process administered through the International Association of Emergency Managers. Candidates do not have to be an IAEM member to be certified, although IAEM membership does offer you a number of benefits that can assist you through the certification process. Certification is maintained in five-year cycles. The CEM® and AEM Programs are served by a CEM® Commission, which is composed of emergency management professionals, including representatives from allied fields, education, military and private industry.
Development of the CEM® and AEM Programs was supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA), and a host of allied organizations.”
